MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Flower Foods has put up nearly $400 million to buy six Hostess Bread brands. Along with the dough comes 38 of the company's depots and 20 bakeries, including the one here in Memphis.

More than 250 Hostess workers in Memphis their lost their jobs when the company went belly up. They joined nearly 19,000 people across the nation who also found themselves suddenly unemployed.

Hostess stopped making bread and dessert products, like their iconic Twinkies, in November.

Twinkies will remain a novelty item for now. They are not included in the sale to Flower Foods.

The question now is whether former Hostess workers will be hired if the sale is approved.

Neither Hostess nor the union representing many of its former workers has commented on the possible deal. A news release issued by Flower Foods, which owns brands such as Nature's Own and Bunny Bread, states the transactions are subject to a court-approved bankruptcy process being initiated by Hostess.
