MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - It's the hot spot to hang out and live for young professionals in Memphis, but a rash of break-ins has many in Cooper-Young on edge.
Cops say at least two guys are behind the break-ins in Cooper Young and they're pretty bold. They'll pull their SUV into their victim's driveway in broad daylight and then clean house.
Linda Ensminger is doing all she can to make sure her house isn't next. "We felt really safe here even 20 years ago. Now it's just scary," she said. "We make sure our doors are locked… we keep our porch light on all night and make sure the car is locked."
The residential reign of terror has stretched on for more than a month in Cooper Young. In November 2011, burglars targeted more than five homes in two days.
Police arrested five suspects, but the men behind the latest break-ins are still at large and are said to be driving a white, older model SUV.
Police have stepped up patrols and are urging residents to be on the lookout.
Residents in Cooper Young plan on meeting with Memphis Mayor A C Wharton to come up with fresh ideas to crack down on the crime.
