Cordova Man Arrested On Identity Theft Charges

A Cordova man is in jail after Shelby County Officers arrested him for identity theft. Investigators say some of the victims were undergoing cancer treatments.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A Cordova man is in jail after Shelby County Officers arrested him for identity theft. Investigators say some of the victims were undergoing cancer treatments.

Detectives of the Shelby County Sheriff’s ALERT (Area Law Enforcement Retailers Team) received word that Mareco Bell was actively committing acts of Identity Theft out of his home located on the 7500 block of Par View Cove in Cordova.

The ALERT Unit along with Sheriff’s SWAT, Fugitive, and patrol secured and executed a search warrant for the residence.

A search yielded documents to support identity theft trafficking. Fraudulent Tennessee driver’s licenses, fraudulent tax returns, seized computers, and a 2010 Nissan Altima.

Bell was also in possession of over 500 people’s identities to include debit cards with pin numbers.

Mareco Bell was charged with one count of Identity Theft Trafficking and (10) counts of Identity Theft. His bond has been set at $20,000,000.00 million and the remainder of the evidence has been turned over to the IRS and Secret Service for possible federal charges.

This is a significant case, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges and arrests are likely.
