Council To Decide On Smart Meters

New information tonight on the battle over smart meters.

MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - New information tonight on the battle over smart meters.

In two weeks Memphis City Council will decide whether to spend $10 million for a very controversial device.

The money would be used to install 60,000 smart meters for MLGW customers.

Council members heard from utility president Jerry Collins, who says a pilot program of smart meters has been successful.

But there are many people who say smart meters will mean higher utility bills and even the threat of fires.

The final vote is scheduled for the august 20th city council meeting.
