COVINGTON, TN (abc24.com) - A Covington middle school teacher was out of jail Tuesday, November 8, 2011, a day after she was arrested and charged with having sex with and providing booze to 11 different children.

Cindy Clifton, a teacher at Crestview Middle School, was arrested Monday after she was indicted on 53 counts, including 14 counts of statutory rape by an authority figure.

The Tipton County School District launched an investigation after receiving complaints from several parents.

According to the police report, "The complaints were from parents of students who got information from their children that alcohol was being provided to them at parties given by Mrs. Clifton."

"Obviously, we are deeply concerned and saddened by the allegations that have been brought against this teacher,"  Dr. William Bibb, Tipton County Schools Director tells abc24.com.

"When the system was made aware of the allegations, the teacher was immediately suspended without pay from her teaching position and all school related activities pending the investigation of the allegations," Bibb says.

According to a Tipton County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman, Clifton posted $40,000 bond and was out of jail Tuesday night.

A man at Clifton's Covington home declined comment.

Clifton is due in court for her first court appearance on Thursday, November 10th.

I can see why the parties were 'booze-fueled'

If our society and family values are gone, why has the media made such a big issue of this story? Instead of using this as another reason to bring into disrepute the large number of people devoting their lives to giving their best for the benefit of our children, why not just dismiss this person as the deviant she is and hope she gets help to learn to engage in appropriate relationships? The number of deviants isn't growing there's just a lot more ways of reporting their activities these days!

shame on you lady. The story doesn't mention how old the students are. That's a pretty important factor for me. Are we talking 8th graders or 4th? I'll never condone this behavior from an adult, but if we've got a teacher giving out booze and BJs to kids who are already drinking and sexually active then it isn't nearly as horrible as it sounds. Where were these lady teachers when I was in school??

This seems to be no end to the growing number of teachers, athlectic coaches, and pastors from around the country who are engaging more in sexual activity with students. Our society and family values are just gone.
