ARLINGTON, TN (abc24.com) - An accident in the Arlington area left one person dead and Highway 70 shut down in both directions.

The accident occurred at Highway 70 and Jetway Drive just before 8:00am on January 5, 2012. The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed that one person died in the crash. The victim was later identified as 43-year-old Carla Bond.

THP investigators stated that a 2005 Chevy Tahoe was traveling westbound on Highway 70 when the driver rear-ended Bond in her 1993 Toyota Corolla. Bond was stopped on Highway 70 waiting to turn left onto Jetway Drive when she was hit. Preliminary reports show that alcohol was not likely to be a factor, but a test was requested of the Tahoe's driver.

A moving violation citation was issued to the driver and criminal charges are pending, according to the THP.

Alcohol wasn't involved, but I'd bet cell phone and/or texting was.
