MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Shelby County Sheriff's deputies and federal customs agents arrested a Southaven man for selling counterfeit NFL merchandise over the internet.
According to the police affidavit, the Shelby County ALERT Unit and ICE Homeland Security agents arranged the purchase of a fake NFL jersey on the online classifieds website Craigslist, and met 26-year-old Sandipkumar Patel in a parking lot in the Hickory Hill area. Investigators then arranged to purchase 26 more jerseys from Patel; when he delivered the jerseys, agents placed Patel under arrest.
Following a search of his home, investigators confiscated 60 more counterfeit NFL jerseys purchased from China, nearly $4,000 in cash and computer equipment.
Sandipkumar Patel is charged with Possession/Sale of a Counterfeit Trademark over $1,000. He was book at the Shelby County Jail on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court October 24.
