Donations Pouring in for Dog Found Starving in Plain View of Tunica Neighborhood

He's gone from surviving on a diet of rocks to being one of the most cared for dogs in the Mid-South.
TUNICA, MS (abc24.com) - He's gone from surviving on a diet of rocks to being one of the most cared for dogs in the Mid-South.

ABC 24 News first told you about Joey last week. He was rescued in Tunica, found starving on the street in a crowded neighborhood.

Vets say he hadn't been fed in months. They removed 14 rocks from his stomach a week ago. Since then Joey is improving day by day and receiving help from all over the country.

People have donated thousands of dollars for his treatment. Last week he could barely hold up his head, now he's walking on a leash and pulling one of his vets down the hallway.

Joey has a fractured pelvis, but his doctor says he likely will not require surgery. He has a long road to recovery, but is getting the best care.

The Savior Foundation in Memphis is paying for treatment by an internal specialist.

The Central Animal Hospital in Memphis has also received $2,000 for Joey's care. Another $2,000 has been donated to the Tunica Humane Society, which rescued Joey.
