Dozens Gather for 7th Annual Linking Hands for Life Celebration

Dozens of families celebrated the gift of life at the 7th annual "Linking Hands for Life" event.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - "If it hadn't been for a donor I wouldn't be here," said liver recipient Bo Joplin, who was one of dozens who attended the 7th annual Linking Hands for Life event.

The Mid-South Transplant Foundation hosted the party in Overton Park promoting awareness about organ and tissue donation. Donor families and recipients celebrated the gift of life.

"With the donor family there's always a special feeling because we share one thing in common. We were able to give the gift of life through our loved ones," said donor mom Hope Butler.

The festival was emceed by our very own Jackie Orozco. It included kid-friendly games, live music, and a memorial balloon release for heroes who passed on the gift of life. It was also dedicated to ABC 24 Chief Meteorologist Mark Walden, who passed away recently. Mark's wife and baby son showed their support.

Throughout the event folks were reminded how important it is to become a registered donor.

Top 10 American Idol finalist Scott MacIntyre performed. As a kidney recipient, the event hit close to home for him.

"This event today is so special to have a donor families, recipient families, donors and recipients and those here who are also in memory of those who couldn't be here. To have all those people gather in one place to celebrate the gift of life is absolutely amazing. I'm just glad I was able to be apart of it," said MacIntyre.
