Dr. Shirley Raines to Retire as University of Memphis President

After 12 years behind the helm, University of Memphis president Dr. Shirley Raines has announced her retirement, effective June 30.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - After 12 years behind the helm, University of Memphis president Dr. Shirley Raines has announced her retirement, effective June 30.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the University of Memphis as president. These have been 12 of the most enjoyable, challenging and professionally fulfilling years of my life,” Raines stated in a prepared release. “The university has a strong foundation for the future, and I am confident in its academic and administrative leadership.”

An interim president is expected to be named this week.

Dr. Raines is U of M's 11th president, and first woman to hold the position.
