Dyersburg Police Investigating Attempted Child Abduction

Dyersburg Police are investigating an attempted abduction of a child that was walking to a school bus stop Thursday morning.
DYERSBURG, TN (abc24.com) - Dyersburg Police are investigating an attempted abduction of a child that was walking to a school bus stop Thursday morning.

Police were notified around 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, November 1 that an 11-year-old girl was walking to the school bus stop on Schaffer Street, when a male suspect came up from behind and tried to pull her towards a nearby vacant house. The child struggled with the man and was able to break free and run away.

The only description available of the suspect is a male wearing a dark color fleece jacket and latex gloves. Officers and investigators remained on the scene for several hours interviewing residents and searching for evidence.

Officers will return to the area Thursday afternoon when school lets out for precautionary measures, and continue interviews of potential witnesses.
