East Memphis Standoff with Bank Robbery Suspect Ends in Suicide

A police standoff with a bank robbery suspect who crashed at a busy intersection Tuesday morning ended when the suspect took his own life.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - A police standoff with a bank robbery suspect who crashed at a busy intersection Tuesday morning ended when the suspect took his own life.

Officers responded to a robbery at Wells Fargo Bank on the 6400-block of Poplar Ave. around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23.

The suspect fled headed westbound on Walnut Grove and wrecked the vehicle at Walnut Grove and Perkins.

Residents in the area were being told to stay indoors and St. Mary's Episcopal School was put on lockdown.

The suspect refused to surrender to police and turned the gun on himself.
