MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Elvis Presley and two of his high school classmates will have a plaque dedicated in their honor at Humes High School Tuesday.

George Klein met Elvis in the 8th grade. And the two remained good friends until the King's death.

Red West, an actor and songwriter, was Elvis' bodyguard and a member of his entourage, known as the 'Memphis Mafia'.

Because Elvis graduated from Humes, the school is on the national register of historic places.

The building now houses the Humes Middle School.

Due to the low student population in that part of North Memphis, the unified school system plans to turn Humes into a performing arts school.

The ceremony will start at 10 a.m. in the school auditorium.
