¬MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A jury returned a verdict of not guilty for former Memphis Police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his patrol car.
Michael Kearney was arrested in August 2010 after a woman accused him of fondling her and forcing her to have sex with him. The woman said Kearney had pulled her over for a traffic violation when she informed him she was on probation. She told jurors Kearney fondled her in the back seat of his police car, and then ripped up the citation in exchange for sex.
Kearney admitted to having sex with the woman, but said it was consensual and occurred at her residence while he was off-duty. He told jurors that she gave him her number after he ripped up the citation.
