Former Police Officer Begins Six Month Sentence

The former Memphis police officer who caused a crash killing two people began his six month sentence Tuesday.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - The former Memphis police officer who caused a crash killing two people began his six month sentence Tuesday.

Alex Beard reported to jail around 11:00 a.m. 

The former MPD officer pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and aggravated assault last week.

Investigators say Beard was traveling more than 90 miles per hour without lights or siren when he slammed into a family's car.

The accident happened in August 2012 in South Memphis.

Delores Epps and her 13 year-old daughter were killed.

Beard was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 6 years probation as part of a plea deal.
