Four New Tenants Set to Open in Overton Square

The Overton Square district is bringing life back by leasing four more spaces to new tenants.

MEMPHIS, TN--The Overton Square district is bringing life back by leasing four more spaces to new tenants.

"It was a fun place to hang out. They started closing things down, talked about getting rid of it. Everyone in the community was really sad. When they started reviving it I was like that's the place I want to be. I wanna be a part of where Memphis history was and reviving Memphis' history," said Alexandra Rushing.

Rushing says she's happy to be a part of the revitalization of Overton Square. Her retail store, The Attic, is one of four new spots set to open in Midtown Memphis. The boutique will sell women and men's clothing and accessories. If you have a sweet tooth, Sweet Noshings--will open its doors soon--the sweet shop will include candy, cakes and ice cream.

"For years I've heard my Dad and his generation talk about how happening this place was in the ‘70s and ‘80s and I heard about the revitalization plans and thought it was something I had to be apart of," said Leena Asbridge.

Two other recent leases signed in the square include Breakaway Running and Cardio Barre. Bob Loeb says the French Quarter Hotel is now under a 60 day contract. The group hopes to come up with a plan to re-open its doors.

"There are a number of different demands generators in Midtown that would love to see that hotel come back and in the square we would love to see it because it's an eyesore the way it is and it would be a real amenity as a vibrant boutique hotel. We’re glad to work with quite a number of Midtown groups on bringing the square back, not exactly the way it was before but 2013s version will be a lot more family friendly," said Loeb.
