MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - 41-year-old MATAplus bus driver Chantel Sanders was killed in an accident Tuesday morning on I-240 near the South Parkway exit, leaving those who knew her in total shock.

"Just when I would step up on the bus she always had a smile," said MATAplus rider Sharon Young, one of the last people to see Sanders Tuesday morning when she dropped her off at work.

Hours later, Young was devastated to hear the mother of two was killed in a terrible accident.

"She was always like happy no matter what, she was always like happy. So I'm just gonna miss seeing her," said Young.

A cement truck overturned and hit the small bus Sanders was driving. The much loved, 8-year MATA veteran died at the scene. MATA President and General Manager William Hudson says Sanders was a dedicated employee with a great personality. Grief counselors are on hand for her traumatized co-workers.

"Some drivers just could not make it. We had to send them back home, you know. They are really affected by the death of our driver," said Hudson.

When ABC 24's Joyce Peterson posted Sanders' passing on her Facebook page, more than 800 people left condolences for her family. Most mentioned her beautiful smile.

"I've received calls from some of the riders she actually transports on a daily, sometimes weekly, basis and they really loved her. They talk about her smile, she always smiled," said Hudson.

Young added, "I'm just gonna miss her. She was just great a person."
