MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - From a big home to the big house, the east Memphis squatter remained in jail on a multi-million dollar bond Friday night.

Tabitha Gentry was arrested early Thursday morning after the self-proclaimed sovereign citizen started living in a foreclosed home on the 600-block of South Shady Grove Road.

"She just got crazy like that, man. I don't know what's wrong with her," said one friend, who declined to give his name.

Nicki Bryant, a life-long friend of Gentry, said she ran into her a few days ago at a near-by store.

"She said look at my house, look at my big $3 Million house," a laughing Bryant said. "She showed me pics of the house and everything."

Bryant said Gentry showed her pictures of the pool, and of the inside of the house.

"I said that's a big house, how did you get that house? She said we just got it, I got the deed for it, I was like, for real?" Gentry said. "She was real happy."

Late last month, Gentry filed paperwork with Shelby County claiming ownership of the house. Early Friday, Gentry was arrested as she drove away from the house. She's charged with aggravated burglary.

Gentry is set to make her first court appearance on Monday morning.

The truth of the matter is that banks got sloppy in their practices which led to all these foreclosures. It is likely nobody, at this time, really has their hands on any clear deed to this home. Chances are it was packaged and sold with thousands of other bad risk mortgages and ended up as a mere listing on an inventory report. That is why it took another matter to bring the police inside the home. She'd better not delay court too long. That title search is going to take some time!

Just another case of, I want it, can't afford it, so I'll steal it or in this case try. Why not do something novel, get yourself a job and live within your means and be happy instead of trying to hoodwink people into thinking you are something you aren't. You are a pathetic woman and instead of a huge house, your home is going to be a little cell for awhile and you deserve it.

Now, if they will just convict her and send her to jail: THAT will send a message!
