MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) – The Memphis Wrestling world is mourning the unexpected loss of one of their own.

“He's a good friend of mine I was stunned when I got the word this morning,” Lance Russell said.

Corey Maclin, one of our former coworkers and a huge Mid-South wrestling promoter, died late Tuesday in a car crash on Interstate 55 just south of Sardis, Mississippi.

Maclin was driving alone, when his car swerved and flipped. He was thrown from the vehicle. Troopers with Mississippi Highway Patrol say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. He died on the scene.

Today the Memphis Wrestling world is remembering his life.

“He just loved wrestling he loved watching the show,” Russell said.

Maclin joined Lance Russell as commentator after idolizing him on the show for years.
Russell said he always respected him for the dedication it took to break into the wrestling business.

“He always knew what he wanted to do and then went to work to find out how to go about getting it,” Russell said.

“The great thing about Corey is he was such a fan. He grew up like so many people here in Memphis watching wrestling every Saturday morning. You just couldn't wait to tune in to hear Lance and Dave on the show and then Corey became a part of that,” wrestler and friend Jerry Lawler said. “He loved talking especially about sports and especially about wrestling,”

Viewers saw him talk sports on our station from 2010 until earlier this year.

He was involved with wrestling long before that, joining the Memphis Wrestling show in the nineties.

“Working with him so much as we did it's always tough to lose somebody that's close to you,” Russell said.
