“We love Elvis and we're just excited to be here,” one visitor said. “I think it's a phenomenon that he's been able to 30 some years after his death to hold the interest that he has.”

People travel from around the globe to take in "Elvis Week."

They spend money from Whitehaven to downtown, really shaking up the local economy as Summer vacation season comes to an end.

“The really serious fans tend to stay longer, spend more money and really enjoy all the amenities that Memphis has to offer,” Kevin Kane of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau said.

Other visitors said it is like a family reunion as you see old friends you have made over the years.

By the way, in case you were wondering, the annual vigil started as an informal gathering the year after his death.

The next year, more fans came to honor the king.
