Frustrated Voters Sent to Wrong Polling Stations

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - At the Shelby County Election Commission call center on Election Day, employees fielded calls all day as issues arose. One of the biggest problems was at the voting location at the McWherter Senior Center, where voters were frustrated and confused.

"That's not a glitch, it's mismanagement," one irritated voter was heard saying to a poll worker.

People who had voted for years at Colonial Methodist Church were sent letters weeks ago, telling them to instead go to the McWherter Senior Center several blocks away. When they arrived at McWherter, they were told to go back to colonial.

"I don't know, I'd like to know who's responsible and know in this city this size why they cannot get things straight," said voter Gail Herbert. "Next time we'll just go to vote early, we know where to do that."

"I just feel like the election commission has known about this for some time and they need to get their act together, it's a little disappointing," added Eddie Herbert.

Shelby County Commissioner Mike Ritz explained, "Apparently they moved a small group of voters to McWherter and they send them both a letter and a card, but they sent a lot more people who weren't to vote here letters also, and they were supposed to stay where they were."

Most of the voters planned to go back to Colonial Methodist Church to vote, but they admit some discouraged voters may have just given up and left.

Voter Ron Ross stated, "We've got a problem and it's got to be fixed."
