McDonald’s is planning to build a new restaurant at the corner of Southern and Highland.

That means longstanding shops already at the corner have to move.

James Sexton is the manager of Whatever Smoke Shop.

He says McDonalds plans to move the golden arches from its current spot on highland, 150 yards to where his shop is.

"Makes no sense at all," Sexton said. "And build a McDonald’s that's no bigger than the McDonalds that is six addresses down the road."

McDonald’s says the move will generate more money and allow them to construct a much improved drive-through which accounts for 70 percent of sales.

Guy Stockard owns Southern Meat Market. Unlike Sexton, he's looking forward to moving.

"We're in a corner. No one can catch us. This is not a good location here. Hopefully it'll work for the best," Stockard said.

Local 24 called Century Management, who owns the McDonalds, to get their side. They never called back.

Sexton and Stockard say they are waiting on word to find out when it's time to pack up and ship out.
