Governor Haslam Awards Grant To Restore Tour de Wolf Trail System

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Environment Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau have announced that Shelby Farms Park Conservancy is one of twelve recipients of Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grants.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Environment Conservation Commissioner Bob Martineau have announced that Shelby Farms Park Conservancy is one of twelve recipients of Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grants. Shelby Farms Park Conservancy will receive $40,000 to be used in comprehensive restoration of the Tour de Wolf Trail System at Shelby Farms Park.

The Tour de Wolf trail is a 6.1 mile unpaved loop that travels through the northeast portion of Shelby Farms Park. The trail is ideal for hiking, running and mountain biking. The popularity of the trail has caused extensive wear and tear, which the RTP grant funds will help to address and repair.

“The RTP grant will help Shelby Farms Park Conservancy revitalize one of the Park’s best-loved and most heavily trafficked trails,” said Laura Adams, Executive Director of Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. “We are excited to restore the Tour de Wolf to its full potential – it’s a central feature in recreation in our community and we are eager to improve it.”

Recreational Trail Program grants are funded by the Federal Highway Administration through the federal Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Act. Grant programs are administered through the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). Federal funding for the RTP grants provides 80 percent and RTP grant recipients provide a 20 percent match.

“We are happy to be able to announce the grants and are very glad that Shelby Farms Park Conservancy is a part of this program,” said Gerald Parish, Director of Recreation and Educational Service Division at TDEC. “We look forward working together and seeing progress.”
