Grizz Nation Heads South to Root On Team

It wasn't the outcome Grizz Nation had hoped for, but after a Game 1 defeat, fans that made the journey down were already looking ahead.
SAN ANTONIO, TX (abc24.com) - It wasn't the outcome Grizz Nation had hoped for, but after a Game 1 defeat, fans that made the journey down were already looking ahead.

"We have a chance," said Zach Kaplan, an 8-year-old Grizz fan that favors Zach Randolph, "because we have the same name."

Kaplan said he was still optimistic, chalking Sunday's 105-83 loss to the San Antonio Spurs as just one of those things.

"I was really mad at all the turnovers they had," he added. "It was just not a good day for Z-Bo."

More than a dozen Grizzlies fans made the trek down from the Mid-South and proudly waved Growl Towels in the air.

Jennifer Randall took it a step further.

Randall, attending the game with her husband, was sporting a Growl Towel purse.

"I got a couple of towels from last year and just sewed them together and made a little backpack," Randall said. "I've only been carrying it since last night, got a few looks in the Atlanta Airport."

Through it all, Grizzlies fans remained realistic.

"Spurs are strong, got a good following, we just got to go play ball," said Al Gossett.

Game two in San Antonio is set for Tuesday night. Grizzlies fans in the Lone Star State are ready.

"I'm not going to be stingy take one, go home with one, come back," said Brian Fly.
