MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - All the rainy weather didn't keep people away from the "Heart of Memphis" celebration. The free event allowed them to demonstrate city pride and come together as one Memphis.

Despite the KKK rally downtown, folks say showing up at this event represented another side of Memphis - unity.

Up to 1,000 people attended the Heart of Memphis celebration Saturday. The event, which was supposed to take place at Tiger Lane, was moved inside of the Pipkin Building at the Mid-South Fairgrounds because of the rain.

Activities included live music, art exhibits, and Grizzlies inflatables for kids to jump on. Many say the event represented the Bluff City in a positive light.

"I think it's a large impact," said Amanda Cline. "It just brings people together against, you know, what's going on downtown right now."

Diane Neal added, "Oh, I think it's a good thing to unite the city of Memphis."

This was the first Heart of Memphis celebration. Organizers say they hope to make it an annual event.
