High School Girls Stabbed As They Walked Home

MEMPHIS, TN-- Two teen girls were stabbed Monday afternoon as they walked home from school. It happened in the 3900 block of Tessland and the fight was caught on camera. It's only a few blocks from Raleigh Egypt High School.

One of the students recorded the fight on his i-Phone and showed it to us. You can see a girl whipping another girl around by her hair, a mother screaming at the kids to leave but it was too late. Memphis Police say a girl stabbed 2 other girls.

"It's real tragic to know that they can get a knife or a gun," said a neighbor Henry Lewis.

Lewis lives down the street from the high school. He's still shocked over last week's incident at Westside Elementary in Frayser. A five year old boy brought a loaded gun in his backpack. It went off in the cafeteria and now this fight.

"They get knives at schools and can stab somebody. Why don't they have metal detectors or check the kids? Like up north they run metal detectors everyday," said Lewis.

After the accidental shooting in school, interim superintendent Dorsey Hopson mandated hand wands at all Shelby County Schools but Monday's girl fight happened off school property.
"A lot of gang activity, that's one of the main problems," stated Lewis. "The kids are brain washed to these so called gangs and its real sad."

One of the victims was taken to the Le Bonheur Hospital in non critical condition. She was treated and released a few hours later. No charges have been filed yet.
