@ cinnamongirl, I think it's clear that the redneck, "country" girl intended to wear the flag for the wrong reasons. I totally understand that it shouldn't be a big deal, but this stupid girl was obviously looking for trouble and she found it. She was warned and disregarded the warnings and now her dreams of becoming the most committed bigot at the prom are ruined. The flag shouldn't be such a big deal, but at the same time, not fashioning a dress out of a flag shouldn't be a bid deal either.

apple 73, maybe you need to go back and re-study history! What flag was flown on every northern ship that brought and sold slaves? It wasn't the confederate flag, it was the american flag. Should that be band too? Look up past marches from the KKK, what are they flying? The American Flag! What flag does the Black Pathers fly? The American Flag? Look in real history books and find the true meaning of this flag and the civil war, not history books wrote by northern people!

There is nothing wrong or offensive about the dress. It is a part of history and people need to get over it! The short short dresses and the low cut dresses are more offensive than that one.

MORE double standards/proof of what we KNOW to be true!!!! She SHOULD be able to wear what she wants IF others get to, whether she is being 'controversial' or not!!!!

OK. A high school senior should understand the controversy and history of civil rights in this country and be smart enough to know that wearing that kind of a dress to a public function is inappropriate and asking for trouble. If she doesn't understand this along with the fact that she could have hurt other people by her carelessness, then she doesn't need to be graduating at all. Obviously, she needs to re-study and re-take History. Being "country" is no excuse...not anymore.
