The Horn Lake police chief is gonna check city and state laws to see if any laws were broken!!! SERIOUSLY!?!??? How about IT IS JUST WRONG TO WITHOLD FOOD FROM ANY ANIMAL! Is that really the message Horn Lake "authorities" want to send to the community, especially the youth community? Right now it's saying "If your animal misbehaves,,,starve it til it behaves"

What a brave and honorable woman who stood up for the right thing and refused to be cruel to this dog, even if it cost her her job! Shelter Director should resign and the job given to this woman, at least we know the animals would be properly cared for! To the director, yes I'm sure the dog could go without food for a couple weeks, so could a human..so why don't you give it a try, be in a dark small room with water and nothing else for 8 days...if anything, I bet it could make someone aggressive. Both of these "athority" figures(officer Brown and Director Williams need to be punished to the full extint(if "katfitzgrl" is correct in the law and code then they should get fined $1000 and 6 months locked up..Oh and of course their duties!! If this situation isn't handled and nipped in the bud quick, Horn Lake could see the animal shelter problems that Memphis is seeing....what a shame!!

u do not strave a dog to break aggression, how sad, the police officer needs to have a little time out suspended without pay punishment, stop trying to run the animal shelter.

I am new to this area and had serious questions about the Horn Lake Animal group only a few months ago. If an organisation does not even have the correct phone number and email contacts listed....HOW THE HELL ARE YOU REMOTELY QUALIFIED TO TAKE PROPER CARE OF AN ANIMAL? This entire group needs to be put under the microscope and dealt with appropriately. This is shameful, disgraceful...and UNNACCEPTABLE!!!!

The shelter director should be fired IMMEDIATELY and not allowed to work in the animal welfare field again. Her basic line is "I was just following orders" and "dogs can go weeks without food". What an IDIOT. I manage a shelter, too, and would fire any employee who refused to feed an animal. And if some cop told me not to feed my shelter dogs, I'd tell him exactly where he could shove it. And, BTW, the police chief said he was checking to see if it really is against MS State Law. YES IT IS. Code 97-41-16. And I quote: "(2)(a) If a person shall intentionally or with criminal negligence wound, deprive of adequate shelter, food or water, or carry or confine in a cruel manner, any domesticated dog or cat, or cause any person to do the same, then he or she shall be guilty of the offense of simple cruelty to a dog or cat. A person who is convicted of the offense of simple cruelty to a dog or cat shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and fined not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), or imprisoned not more than six (6) months, or both." Do your job, Chief.

Someone should place Officer Brown in a cage and starve it to break it of its aggression towards dogs. Police, from what I understand, can survive several weeks without donuts.

The dog is supposedly "fat and aggressive". How much do you want to bet that the dog has a medical condition - hypothyroidism - that can make dogs (even dogs who aren't eating) "fat and aggressive"? This dog requires medical care immediately - and a screening for hypothyroidism immediately. This cop is not qualified to make any decisions about a dog's health or behavior. He is clearly not a certified behaviorist or a veterinarian. The shelter director is a fool for listening to him and derelict in her duties for not getting the dog properly medically evaluated. Raging ignorance and hubris leading to criminal cruelty.

This is a very brave young woman. The Horn Lake Shelter Director should RESIGN immediately. She obviously knows nothing about animals. "A dog can go 2, 3, 4 weeks without food". Yes Ms. Williams but after 4 weeks the dog is a dead dog. To follow the instructions of a dog "trainer" with no credentials is amazingly stupid. And to not feed a dog for a week is cruel and inhumane. So, Ms. Williams....what is it? Are you stupid or cruel or both? Resign NOW!
