MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - He confessed to murdering his mother by setting their house on fire, but jurors will never hear the young man's admission of guilt.

A juvenile court judge threw out Johnathan Ray's confession Wednesday in court.

Deputies say the 14 year-old torched his family's southeast Shelby County home in April.

Investigators say Ray poured gasoline at the bottom of the stairs and lit a match, trapping his mother Gwendolyn inside.

Deputies say he also disconnected all of the smoke detectors in the home.

A judge tossed out ray's confession since he wasn't read his Miranda rights.

He will be back in court Thursday morning.
