MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP, abc24.com) - A jury has been chosen in the federal trial of two Memphis men charged with being contract killers for an organization that moved drugs from Mexico into Tennessee and other U.S. states.
It took four days - longer than expected - to seat the jury of 11 women and seven men in the trial of Clinton Lewis and Martin Lewis. The cousins are charged with committing murders for a drug ring led by Craig Petties.
Petties' organization is accused of working with Mexico's Sinaloa cartel to import cocaine and marijuana for sale in Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia and North Carolina. Petties fled to Mexico after his 2002 indictment but was captured in January 2008.
Petties has pleaded guilty to murder for hire and racketeering charges but has not been sentenced.
