Justin Timberlake May Buy into Memphis Grizzlies Ownership Group

He brought sexy back, and now he's backing the Grizzlies. Sources say Justin Timberlake is about to become a part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies.
MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - He brought sexy back, and now he's backing the Grizzlies. Sources say Justin Timberlake is about to become a part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Timberlake reportedly agreed to join Robert Pera's group of minority partners. Timberlake is said to be making a "meaningful investment" into the team and intends to be active with the team.

Timberlake and Pera's friendship reportedly helped the former boy band member and hometown star take on this role.

Chris Hrabe from First Call on Sports 56 offered his take on these developments. "For a franchise that's really fighting to become more and more popular within this community, to have maybe the community's biggest star attached to that would be huge," he said. "There's buzz when he's even just at a game. Last year during the post season when he shows up at a game there's kind of whispers that he may be in the arena, that's huge; so to have him really attached to the franchise and doing more in the public I think would be massive."

Robert Pera agreed to buy the Grizzlies NBA franchise from Michael Heisley for $350 million.

Pera already put together a group of local owners that would essentially keep the franchise in Memphis for fifteen years.

If the sale happens as planned, Timberlake would join the growing ranks of hometown celebrities turned NBA owners. Rapper Jay-Z is co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets and actor Will Smith co-owns the Philadelphia 76ers.
