KKK Rally Cost Memphis and Shelby County Over $175,000

That cost includes regular and overtime hours for police, fire and MATA personnel. It also includes fencing portable toilets and buses.
MEMPHIS, TN -- We're learning how much it cost the city and county to keep the peace during the KKK rally held in downtown Memphis.

61 klan members rallied on the steps of the courthouse March 30th.

They protested a February vote by the Memphis city council to rename three Memphis parks.

Extra precautions were taken to make sure there was no violence. The city and county shelled out more than $175,000 to maintain public safety.

That cost includes regular and overtime hours for police, fire and MATA personnel. It also includes fencing portable toilets and buses.

Memphis Mayor AC Wharton issued a statement saying "peace is priceless" and the extra precautions were necessary.
