Kyle Meets With Historians To Discuss Nineteenth Century Club

State Sen. Jim Kyle has met with state historians over the proposed demolition of the Nineteenth Century Club in Midtown Memphis.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - State Sen. Jim Kyle has met with state historians over the proposed demolition of the Nineteenth Century Club in Midtown Memphis.

“I trust the judgment of the people who devote their lives to studying the history of Memphis and Tennessee,” state Sen. Jim Kyle said. “What they are saying is that this is one of the most historically significant residential buildings in the state, and I want to be sure the Tennessee Historical Commission stays abreast of developments in Memphis.”

Sen. Kyle met with the director of the Tennessee Historical Commission after fielding numerous phone calls from constituents concerned about the property.

The historic building and its grounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but it does not have the local historic designation required to protect it from demolition. The National Register does not protect the building from demolition.
