The Memphis Grizzlies are in the midst of a recruiting campaign. This one doesn't involve players or coaches, but mentors.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - The Memphis Grizzlies are in the midst of a recruiting campaign. This one doesn't involve players or coaches, but mentors.

The Grizzlies Mentoring Program has 50 days to get 50 volunteers. Joel Katz with the Memphis Grizzlies Charitable Foundation joins Local 24 Midday with more on the program and how you can get involved.

What is Grizzlies TEAM Mentoring?

Program Breakdown:
  • Mentoring TEAM = 3 volunteer mentors + 9 students
  • Youth served: 7th and 8th grade boys/girls (same gender teams)
  • Partner Schools: Power Center Academy Middle School, KIPP Memphis Collegiate Middle School, and Soulsville Charter School
  • Example Activity Themes: Team-building, Leadership, Public Speaking, Personal Identity, Civic Engagement, Nutrition, Stress Management, Healthy Relationships, Physical Fitness, Financial Literacy
  • Key Partners: Facing History and Ourselves, University of Memphis Center for Economic Education, Church Health Center, Theatre Memphis
Mentor Commitment:
  • Mentoring Session: 90 minutes per week at school site
  • One School year (2 semesters)
  • Initial Mentor training plus opportunities to participate in supplemental skill development and educational workshops
  • Special Events and field trips (Community Service project, Grizzlies game, Theatre Memphis trip)
