Local School Packs Meals For The Needy

Teachers and staff of one Mid-South school are helping the needy in a big way.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - Teachers and staff of one Mid-South school are helping the needy in a big way.

Faculty and staff at Saint George's Independent School packed up 20,000 meals for the less fortunate.

New research shows 20 percent of Shelby County residents don't have daily access to enough food.

That's why for those at St. George's, it's about helping the community and teaching their students how to give back as well.

“Well you know we're a school that believes very strongly in teaching students to contribute meaningfully to their communitiy and so what we wanted to do as a faculty and staff is to model that and to really do what we say we do.,” president Bill Taylor said.

Each Spring, 4th and 9th graders meet to package meals as well.

All of the meals packaged Wednesday will go to the Mid-South Food Bank.
