MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Several people have been transported to the hospital after a MATA bus and a Memphis police car were involved in a six-vehicle crash on Poplar Avenue in midtown Friday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, November 16 on Poplar Avenue at Scott Street. Police say a vehicle was speeding eastbound on Poplar when it struck another vehicle and swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting the police car head on. A MATA bus heading westbound on Poplar and several other vehicles nearby were also involved.

The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident was transported to The MED in critical condition after being cut from the car. At least six passengers on the MATA bus were also taken to area hospitals in non-critical condition.

Traffic on Poplar was blocked in both directions for more than two hours as emergency crews cleared the scene.
