MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Memphis Light, Gas and Water is once again offering its heat-related reconnection program for those without utilities.
Under the program, those without utilities due to non-payment or failure to complete the required ID process can have their service restored, regardless of how much they owe, for $250 plus the reconnection fee. Participants will be required to pay off their balance within five months using a deferred payment plan.
Customers can start signing up for the program starting Thursday, June 28, and MLGW states it will likely continue through the current heat wave.
“The summer heat in Shelby County can be life-threatening,” MLGW President and CEO
Jerry Collins Jr. stated in a company press release. “This is an effort to help bring some relief to those customers who are currently without power.”
Last year over 1,500 MLGW customers participated. This is the third straight year the utility company has offered its weather-related reconnection plan.
