MPD Director Armstrong Responds to Officer-Involved Shootings

No use trying to reason with myopinion, too much TV. The stress of the situation alone is enough to make a "wounding" shot on purpose a wish. Guys, the informed citizens of Memphis are behind you. Those that aren't are welcome to stand in front of you!

@myopinion- This is real life not TV. It takes alot more skill than you realize to even hit center mass. You have to shoot at the largest target so there's less of a chance of a miss hitting an innocent. I was surprised to find out in permit class that law enforcement only hit their target 35% of the time. And they train often. It's not like Gunsmoke where the script is to shoot the gun out of the bad guy's hand.

I agree they are supposed to protect and serve, I just dont think all situations require a KILL shot some threats are not as severe as others and not saying it's the officers fault maybe its the training. Sometimes a leg, foot, or arm shot would do it. With all the money taxpayer spend on training it does take much to hit center mass and go for the kill. I could hit that with no training. If thats the only thing they can hit why waste the money on all the training.

all the people who are constantly unhappy with police killings: MOVE, dont call the police, handle it yourself if you dont like the way their policy is regarding someone pointing a weapon at them, the thugs that do this stuff have a problem with authority, whose fault is that? parents, if they have parents. MPD we appreciate what you do, be safe. go home at night to your family.

Director Armstrong is absolutly right. MPD officers leave their families everyday not knowing if they'll return. If someone points a gun at them, they have every right to respond with force. Their job is to protect and serve. A person pointing a gun at a police officer is up to no good. Not only are the police officers thinking about protecting themselves and the public, their also thinking about going home to their families. God bless the MPD.
