MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - The top cop for Memphis says he's keeping a watchful eye on Beale Street, even though he thinks three episodes of violence over the last three weekends are isolated incidents.

"You are going to have some incidents," says MPD Director Toney Armstrong.  "We feel we have sufficient enough personnel down there."

The trio of incidents involved big brawls and even gunfire. Late last month, six people were shot. The next weekend, nearly a dozen people were arrested for fighting on Beale. Last weekend, an off-duty officer was attacked.

"I don't think the lack of police officers or the lack of a presence of police officers is the problem," Armstrong tells abc24.com. "I think these are isolated incidents."

Armstrong says he is always analyzing staffing levels, and will continue to do so.

Golden, if the drunk morons as you put it have guns then they are breaking the law and the police should put them away. As for the thugs, the recent shootings show they are armed. Running and hiding from the criminals won't turn this city around, and it won't guarantee your safety. If they know you are disarmed they will visit you where you live.

All the taxpayers leaving memphis is only an isolated incident also. Mempis isn't serious about itself. Look at the recent election. Do Nothing Wharton won his spot. All the same idiots are still on the council. Memphis has become a cesspool of discrimination against all but blacks, added together the sum of the memphis leadership IQ is about 10, and they embarrass the city everytime they leave their house. With good leadership it would take a decade to turn memphis around, but the 'Keep It Black' motto endorsed by Herenton has made sure good leadership is over. Keep voting for color Memphis, and invest in Kevlar.

Would you really feel safer knowing that all the random drunk morons on Beal had guns on their person? One of the best-kept secrets to safety is don't be stupid and put yourself in dangerous situations, and be respectful of people (even thugs) you never know who might shoot you if you piss them off.

Memphis doesn't see there is an increase in crime; just isolated incidents. Tell me again, why can't we carry concealed on Beale street? The police are providing protection? The thugs don't have weapons? What will the city try next, machine gun towers and roof top snipers?
