MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - Holiday crooks, Memphis Police have their eye on you. In parking lots across the city, the department is rolling out their 'Eyes in the Sky' to protect holiday shoppers.
Call it the Saint Nick of the police department. It sees you when you're sleeping, knows when your awake, and this Eye in the Sky definitely knows if you've been bad or good.
Stephanie McGavic's noticed the SkyCops across the Mid-South, and every one makes her feel a little safer.
"I feel like this is the time they need to help and look out for you and everything," she told abc24.com. "I have seen those, and seen them in other places, in Southaven and Olive Branch, and I actually like that because you feel like they are keeping an eye on what going around."
Memphis Police have 11 SkyCops that will be monitored at the Real Time Crime Center throughout the holidays. They'll watch heavily populated shopping areas and look for anything out of place.
The cops bird's eye view isn't just giving shoppers piece of mind, its helping everyone in the parking lot feel a little safer.
Bob Forsee is managing a Christmas tree lot for the first time this year. The SkyCop tower and cops on patrol make it an easy season.
"It tames the traffic, because this place is a zoo when it gets busy. We also have the Memphis Police are patrolling the parking lot, doing a terrific job and stop by and talk to me every once in a while," Forsee said.
Shoppers hope the blue lights allow them to keep their presents where they belong.
Just because a tower is in the parking lot doesn't mean shoppers should become lazy with their routine. Keep your doors locked and your valuables out of sight.
