Main Street to Main Street Project Begins Accepting Bids

The Main Street to Main Street project is now accepting bids for the restoration of the Harahan Bridge.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - The Main Street to Main Street project is now accepting bids for the restoration of the Harahan Bridge.

Bids to handle the restoration are due by September 6th.

The $15 million dollar project will connect Main Street in downtown Memphis with Broadway Avenue in West Memphis, Arkansas.

It will allow for foot and bike traffic across the Mississippi River.

A federal grant made the project possible. It's expected to be completed sometime next year.

U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx visited Memphis Wednesday to talk about the project.

“So this project is truly about improving quality of life, it's about making Memphis an even more desirable place to live and work and do business,” Foxx said.

Downtown Memphis Commission President Paul Morris also tweeted about the project.

He said, "The Main to Main project is about fixing old rather than building new. We need more fixing projects around here."
