MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A woman was badly beaten in a north Memphis area kidnapping attempt, and her boyfriend is behind bars for the crime.
According to the police affidavit, 24-year-old Christopher Norman took his girlfriend from a club on N Hollywood near Chelsea and forced her into his car just after midnight on March 1. The victim was driven across town while Norman struck her repeatedly in the head with a hammer.
Norman stopped at a Mapco on Winchester at Kirby, and the victim escaped. He tried to force her back into the car, all while hitting her with the hammer. When he couldn't get her back in the car, he tried to run over the victim with his 2004 Jeep Cherokee. The store clerk, who witnessed the entire incident, got the woman inside the business and locked the door. While the clerk called 911, the Norman drove across the street and waited, the document states.
Christopher Norman was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Kidnapping and Attempted Second Degree Murder. He was booked at the Shelby County Jail on $100,000 bond.
