Man Charged in Henning Postal Killings Gets Added Charges

A new federal indictment charges a man charged in the killing of two Henning post office workers with robbing two banks and planning another heist.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A new federal indictment charges a man charged in the killing of two Henning post office workers with robbing two banks and planning another heist.

According to The Commercial Appeal, prosecutors said the bank jobs came in the weeks after the killings in which Chastain Montgomery and his teenage son were later implicated. Police fatally wounded 18-year-old Chastain Montgomery Jr. in a shootout in Mason in February 2011 after officers stopped him driving a stolen truck.

The elder Montgomery, who is 48, is a former state corrections officer.

Postal employees Paula Robinson and Judy Spray were fatally shot during an October 2010 robbery at the post office in rural West Tennessee. Inspectors say only $63 was taken.

Montgomery has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
