Man Charged with Kidnapping, First Degree Murder

A murderous rampage in Southeast Memphis left one woman dead along with two dogs.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)- A murderous rampage in Southeast Memphis left one woman dead along with two dogs.

"To wake up and get a phone call that your first cousin been killed? That's a hard pill to swallow," said Satrina Brown.

Brown says her family was shocked to hear about the tragic death of her 41-year-old cousin Rachel Harrington.

Early Sunday morning Harrington's daughter, 25-year-old Tyrannay Boyd, contacted the Shelby County Sheriff's Office about threatening phone calls from her ex-boyfriend 26-year-old Brandon Spicer.

Shortly after, the suspect climbed through the bedroom window of her home located on the 5000-block of Barkshire and once inside, he shot and killed Boyd's mom and their two dogs.

"It's just unfortunate, very unfortunate," said Michael King.

A spokesman from the Shelby County Sheriff's office says Boyd then ran down the street and was caught by Spicer who held a gun to her head and kidnapped her. Detectives received information on their whereabouts from Boyd. They were both found at The Trails apartment complex off Mt. Moriah and Kirby Parkway. Family members say the couple met on Facebook and dated for about a month.

"Us young people get on that Facebook. We don't know who we meet. We meet mass murderers, rapist, I mean people coming from other states coming here. We don't know anything about this young guy," said Brown.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has charged Brandon Banks (his alias name) with First Degree Murder, Aggravated Kidnapping and Possession of a Firearm during the commission of a felony. No court date or bond information is set at this time.

"I just pray that the citizens of Memphis would come together and just stop the madness and try to work out whatever differences that you have as oppose to using guns and taking to violence to be around. And it's unfortunate that this happened but you know it's just a sign of the times," said King.
