Man Charged with Killing Wife in Berclair Shooting

Police arrested a man accused of shooting and killing his wife after an argument over insurance.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)-Police arrested a man accused of shooting and killing his wife after an argument over insurance.

Officers responded to a shooting call from a Patrick Spencer on the 800-block of Sumter Street around 5:42 a.m. on Saturday, June 22.

Spencer made the call to police telling dispatchers his wife had been shot after she grabbed for the gun he held that went off striking her.

Inside the home, police discovered 49-year-old Lisa Spencer lying on the couch with a gunshot wound. Spencer was standing over his wife trying to stop the bleeding.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead on the scene; officers arrested Mr. Spencer and took him to jail for questioning.

According to the police affidavit, Spencer told investigators there was an argument over insurance where a gun appeared in the altercation.

He says the gun was in a secured holster at first and at some point was removed shooting his wife in the chest.

Patrick Spencer is charged with Second Degree Murder. He was booked at the Shelby County Jail on Saturday, June 22, and is being held without bond.
