Man Tries to Set Ex-Girlfriend's House on Fire

A Memphis man is in jail after police say he tried to set his ex-girlfriend's house on fire.

MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com)-– A Memphis man is in jail after police say he tried to set his ex-girlfriend's house on fire.

It happened on the 5400-block of Gold Leaf Road early Saturday morning.

According to Deputies, Larcenee Foster stepped outside of her home to speak to a friend and that's when she saw her ex-boyfriend, Cortez Scott, pouring gas on her car and garage.

According to a police report, Scott tried to go inside the home for a lighter but Foster stopped him.

Foster’s three kids were inside at the time. When Deputies showed up, Scott ran through the house and out the back door.

Police caught him running near Hightor Street. Scott told deputies he had no intentions of setting the garage on fire.

Scott has been charged with criminal attempt of aggravated arson.

It is not his first brush with the law.

His criminal background includes aggravated burglary and vandalism, unlawful possession of a weapon, violation of protection order and domestic bodily harm.
