Memphis Family Turns Love for Grizzlies into Booming Business

MEMPHIS, TN (abc24.com) - A local family has turned their love for the Grizzlies into a booming Grizz-wear business.

You've probably seen the Hoop City shirts around town. They're about Memphis and 100% made in Memphis.

"We were nicknamed Hoop City," says Tim Flowers. "We wanted to have a t-shirt that said in fact that, Hoop City." But Flowers couldn't find one anywhere in Hoop City.

"We had to do the Memphis thing and make it ourselves," he smiles.

Flowers started out with a simple design, making the shirts at his home. "We started last year in a garage and it's expanded."

Now Flowers and his wife Jamie have a full time business on their hands, hoopcityshirts.com.

"I'm in the background," says his wife Jaime. "I help to tag shirts, fold shirts."

They make the shirts in a studio downtown, printing every one themselves.

"We have about eight to 10 different variations," Tim says. All are inspired by the Grizzlies, his favorite team. "I think about things as a fan that I would like to wear and I would like to express going to a game."

Flowers creates the designs on his computer, prints out the art, then presses the shirt. They cost around $20.

He's sold hundreds this playoff season and loves seeing Grizz fans wearing them at games or around town.

"I'm just blown away and appreciative of the overwhelming support," he tells abc24.com.

You can buy his shirts at several Memphis shops: Young Avenue Deli in midtown Memphis; Trolley Stop Market, Lunchbox Eats, and DeJAVU in downtown Memphis; and Rock'N'Dough Pizza Co. in east Memphis.

They're also available at www.hoopcityshirts.com.
