Memphis Fire Museum Celebrates 15 years

The Memphis Fire Museum is celebrating its 15 year anniversary.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - The Memphis Fire Museum is celebrating its 15 year anniversary.

Administrators at the museum say they're looking forward to the next 15 years with new exhibits and renovations.

This year, the downtown Memphis museum has received nearly a million dollars in donations and grants.

The plan is to use the money to add new features and displays to the museum, while also providing free transportation and admission to memphis school kids.

"They think it's just fire equipment they're going to see and patches that firefighters like to trade. That's not true. There are interactive exhibits that are educational and fun,” director of the Fire Museum Penny Smith said.

The Memphis Fire Museum opened in 1998.

Its mission is to educate the community about fire safety and prevention as well as preserve the heritage and history of the Memphis Fire Department.
