MEMPHIS, TN--One of the biggest stars of the Grizzlies is also one of Santa's most generous elves. Rudy Gay hosted his annual holiday shopping spree for kids at Target in East Memphis.
"I have never been so happy in my life before," said Cheyenne Mitchell.
Tears of joy all because of Memphis Grizzly player Rudy Gay.
"Christmas is an important holiday and my family always was, and for that matter, it's important for me to give back," said Rudy Gay.
Gay hosted his annual holiday shopping spree at Target for 100 kids involved with Memphis Athletic Ministries, a non profit organization that targets at risk urban youth.
"This is an awesome opportunity for these kids to receive Christmas, but also to give to their family," said-Randy Odom with Memphis Athletic Ministries.
Each family received a $225 gift card to do all of their shopping.
Brian Peeples used his gift card to buy gifts for another family who's home was broken into.
"It's better to give than receive," said Brian Peeples.
Other kids took pictures with their favorite basketball player. Some even rode bikes in the store with him.
"When they here with me they can do all the stuff that their parents would never let them do," said Rudy Gay.
"It's really nice to have some people that you really don't get to meet everyday, like these guys that you see on tv ," said Derek Peeples.
"He's going out of his way to help out children, and it's an honor to be blessed by someone who doesn't have to do it, but he's taken time and his money and I thank Rudy and M.A.M.," said Threa Mitchell.
