Memphis Hopes to Lure Justin Timberlake to FedEx St. Jude Classic

There's a campaign to get Justin Timberlake to play at next year's FedEx St. Jude Classic golf tournament.
MEMPHIS, TN (localmemphis.com) - He brought sexy back. Now Memphians want him to come back. There's a campaign to get Justin Timberlake to play at next year's FedEx St. Jude Classic golf tournament.

Golfers and those who couldn't care less about the sport all agree Timberlake and the tournament would be a winning combination.

"I think it's a great idea," says Scott Emerson, a fan of golf and Justin Timberlake. "He's a pretty decent golfer."

He can't believe Timberlake hasn't played in the FedEx St. Jude Classic before now. Organizers are trying to get him here for next year.

"The bigger the celebrities they have, the more tickets they sell," Emerson says. "A couple of years ago, they had Tim Tebow and I took my stepdaughter out there, who was 16. They must have had a thousand people following him around."

Emerson went this year and says crowds weren't the same. "There was nobody following the groups other than families of the groups."

Memphians we talked with say if Justin played, that would change.

"He's hot," says Terrika Hampton. "I like his dance moves."

Hampton doesn't know a bogey from a birdie, but she likes Justin. "I would (go to the tournament) just to watch him play," she says.

"I feel like it would open up a whole new market of people to support (St. Jude)," says Jessica Ganus.

"It's not a bad idea at all," adds Dexter Jones.

"I think he'd do anything to help St Jude Hospital," says Emerson. "I think all they've got to do is ask him."

They're working on it, but organizers of the FedEx St. Jude Classic didn't want to talk on camera.

They say they'd love Justin to come play, as well as Tiger Woods, Phil Mickleson - all the celebrities. We'll keep you posted on what happens.
